Gourmet Dark Chocolate – Once Considered for the Wealthy Only

When dark chocolate was first created, it was considered to be only for the very wealthy as well as folks of nobility. Therefore, it certainly was a gourmet dark chocolate. Now, most dark chocolate has a somewhat gourmet feel to it and there are now many variations that can also fit this bill. Usually, it is the dark chocolate laced truffles that would fit this bill.

Now days, the word gourmet may be a bit overused when referring to the chocolate genre when every company seems to be jumping on the gourmet bandwagon. Therefore, one must be picky as well as discrete when selecting the ones that are actually considered to be in the gourmet vein. And, there are those that are out there that can be considered this too. But, whether they taste better than some of the other considered to be gourmet dark chocolate is simply a matter of personal taste and preference. Lets take a look at some of these types of candy bars and discuss a bit about them. You can then get them and sample them and decide whether they are actually gourmet or not. However, be aware, that to try these specific gourmet dark chocolate bars, one will most certainly have to oder them off of the internet considering that they are not nationally distributed brands.

Lets begin with probably one of the top brands. Recchiuti Confections of San Francisco. Coincidently, this is probably one of the very few that can truly me called gourmet. Michael Recchiuti created these wonderful chocolates in nineteen ninety seven following many years working in a test kitchen. He treats chocolate like a work of art and painstakingly hand selects each and every ingredient that he uses. He utilizes tried and true European techniques to create these and the taste will certainly convey his passion. They can be ordered directly from their website and are about seven dollars per dark chocolate bar.

Enstrom’s is primarily known for almond toffee but, does create a selection of dark chocolate truffles that include fruit purees as well as fine liquors. They can be ordered by the truffle box assortment directly from their website and from their stores in the Denver, Colorado area.

Hershey’s makes a nugget, like their mini bars, except they’re thicker with semi sweet chocolate and almonds.

I do not like milk chocolate at all.

The 3 others are right, you need to look at more of the European choclate makers, Reider, Lindt, Nestle and Callebaut, here in Canada we have a specialty chocolater called Laura Secord.

They make it and it is called Almond Bark, in dark, milk and white chocolate it was my step-grandfather favorite and we always bought him a box at Xmas, it is now $10.00 a pound up here.

Look for a place that sells imorted chocolate, the one one I have ever seen from the US in a Peter Paul/Almond Joy with the coconut and it is in dark chocolate.
